Astronomy Interactive Network - Learn about radio as well as optical astronomy, the history of astronomy (with a timeline), short biographies of important astronomers, plus a section with interactive games, quizzes, and a message board.

At Home Astronomy - Hands-On Science Experiments for the Whole Family-The Center for Science Education has posted a collection of illustrated instructions for science experiments related to astronomy. Not only are these experiments easy and fun, they would be great inspiration for science fair projects.

Earth and Moon Viewer - "You can view either a map of the Earth showing the day and night regions at this moment, or view the Earth from the Sun, the Moon, the night side of the Earth, above any location on the planet specified by latitude, longitude and altitude, from a satellite in Earth orbit, or above various cities around the globe." The images are impressive.

Hubblesite - Produced by the Space Telescope Science Institute's Office of Public Outreach, this site celebrates everything Hubble, with pictures, maps, scientific explanations, etc.

NASA - Space Link has been online since 1988 and was specifically developed for use by the educational community.  It is a comprehensive electronic library that contains current information related to NASA’s aeronautics and space research.  It also provides access to other NASA resources available on the Internet.  Through this site materials can be selected for their educational value and relevance plus current status reports on NASA programs and services, Agency projects and events, news releases and television broadcast schedules for NASA TV.

SkyPub - This site has pages on backyard astronomy, maps and charts, this week’s sky-at-a-glance, and reviews of consumer products for astronomy. Very user-friendly with an exceptional link page to star charts, amateur research, events, education, museums and planetariums, as well as freeware and shareware programs.

U.S. Naval Observatory - U.S. Naval Observatory  (//aa.usno.navy.mil/AA/data)  The web pages of the Astronomical Applications Department offers products like almanacs, software, and web services—which provide precise astronomical data for practical applications, serving the defense, scientific, commercial and civilian communities.  This is the real deal.  Know what you are looking for.  Some areas are restricted.

All About Birds - This site is appropriate for grade school student to adult citizen scientist. The colors, images, bird songs and information are all you would expect from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and American Ornithologists' Union.

BioEd Online - Biology Teacher Resources from the Baylor College of Medicine includes presentations and slide sets, teacher resources, biology news, hot topics in biology, and discussions.

Biology in Motion – Dr. Saul, a biology teacher and web game/website developer, created this site. Requires Flash plug-ins. Easy learning, sophisticated concepts, lots of fun.

BiologyBrowser – This interactive portal was designed by BIOSIS to connect life sciences researchers to useful resources. Biology news stories and lots of links.

Internet Directory for Botany - An alphabetical directory and a categorical directory.

Plants National Database - Sponsored by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, you can search by scientific or common name and limit your search to specific states. Find information of threatened, noxious, wetlands, or economically important plants.

Tom Volk’s Fungi – A University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Professor’s humongous fungus pages. There is even a fungus of the month.

UCSD Biomedical & Medical Center Libraries - Access to the University of California, San Diego, library of monographs and serials.  There is also a page of links to Internet Websites in the fields of biology and medicine, databases (including California Digital Library—MELVYL ), free Medline, and Specialized Internet Guides, which include patent search, grants and biomedical jobsearch.

Chemistry

American Chemical Society - The principle databases, Chemical Abstracts and Registry, now include about 14 million document records and more than 20 million substance records respectively.  CAS also produces databases of chemical reactions, commercially available chemicals, listed regulated chemicals and compounds claimed in patents.

Chemistry Resource Locater

Royal Society of Chemistry - Communities of experts, WWW chemistry society sites, analytical chemistry resources, sources of funding, information services, careers and chemical hazards communications.  Information on this site is supplied by over 30 world wide Chemistry societies.  Science Park is their comprehensive resource for teachers and students. This list includes the SETI program you can download to your home computer to become part of the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.

Environmental Science

Coral Reefs - From Action Atlas. "The plight of the planet's coral reefs—and how you can help."

Conservation Action Network - Sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund, this site helps you get involved in saving the environment. You sign up to receive a monthly email detailing a need for action and listing email addresses of legislators, etc. to whom you can write to voice your concern or support.

Defenders of Wildlife - This nonprofit group is dedicated to protecting species and habitat. They took over the State Environmental Resource Center information when the funding was cut for that program.

Geology.com - Features an Earth Science dictionary of over 500 terms, printable geologic time scale, mineral identification chart and volcano, sinkhole and topographic map pages. There is also a page for each state, and Rebuilding New Orleans page. Maintained by the Dept. of Geography and Geology at Mansfield University.

Global Change Master Directory - This site features links to Internet resources with global change, earth science and environmental data.  Subjects covered are agriculture, atmosphere, cryosphere, environment, radience/imagery, geophysics, international organizations, land surfaces, satellite data and images and U.S. Federal Agencies.  Hosted and maintained by NASA, the GCMD database includes descriptions of data sets (DIFs) covering climate change, the biosphere, hydrosphere and oceans, geology, geography, and human dimensions of global change.

National Caucus of Environmental Legislators - This group was organized in 1996 for the purpose of providing environmentally progressive legislators with an opportunity to coordinate their activities with respect to national legislative organizations.

National Environmental Data Index – NEDI provides direct access to environmental data and information holdings for scientists, policy makers and concerned citizens.

NASA's Earth Observatory - Source of information on weather, oceans, cloud formations, the ecosystem.

Storm Events - National Climate Data Center provides a database for all types of storms (tornadoes, hurricanes, lighting, etc.) from 1950-1992. Information includes fatalities and monetary damage.

United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre - This program "provides biodiversity information for policy and action to conserve the living world…Programmes concentrate on species, forests, protected areas, marine, mountains and freshwaters; plus habitats affected by climate change such as polar regions." This site features reports for habitats, a species database (with thousands of plant and animal species), list of protected areas, international agreements, maps and much more

Exploratorium – This is the online version of Dr. Frank Oppenheimer’s Exploratorium. Since 1969, the San Francisco Palace of Fine Arts has housed this unique science educational program. Fascinating for all ages.

First Gov for Science – Science.gov is a gateway to authoritative science information provided by U.S. Governement agencies, including research and development results.

How Stuff Works - Find out how a car engine works, how a house is built, how your body uses food, etc.

Live Science - This well named science site from Imaginova, a publisher of print and online science publications and sponsor of Science.com, gives the most recent news stories concerning advances in science. All types of stories are covered including 'strange news.' Site includes news feeds, video clips and images.

scitopia.org - 'Search over 3 million documents, plus patents and government data. Fifteen societies spanning 150 years of sci-tech scholarship help you with your queries.'

Union of Concerned Scientists - Examines issues and monitors current events relating to agriculture, renewable energy, transportation, global warming.

Mathematics


Cool Math - Math problems and solutions that range from the very easy to algebra and calculus.

Easy Calculations - This site features easy calculators for virtually any math function or conversion-standard deviation, root mean square, matrix addition, acceleration converter, etc. Most are accompanied by tutorials explaining the function.

Illuminations – National Council of Teachers of Mathematics gives help to students, teachers and parents on every level of math education.

Energy Science Projects - Science projects related to energy.

Fair Way: Your Guide to Brevard County Science Research - Florida Tech librarians have organized this site to give students doing science fair projects the best advice on Topic Selection, Guidelines, Research Methods, Research Assistance, Presentation and Judging.

Hands-On Activities - The San Francisco Exploratorium offers dozens of hands-on science activities.


Science Fair Handbook - This site is designed for teachers who want to make science fair projects 'pleasant and enjoyable.' You will find suggestions to help the student choose a topic, lists of topics for grades 2-8, links, forms and lots more.

Science Fair Project Resource Guide - This site will coach the student through the project with an annotated list of sites on how to do a science fair project, samples of completed projects, ideas for projects, and general science resources. Robotics

Robot Digest - There is a whole community of folks interested in robotics, and this is where to chat with them. Users can post, read, and comment on the latest robot news, talk and argue about new inventions and innovations in the field of robotics, and give each other helpful hints on how to build or program their own robots. Registration is required for full access, but it's free and worth it.

Robots.net – The latest news on personal and industrial robotics, robot competitions, and other cool stuff.

Robot Café - A robotic portal to links, information, instructions and news.

Sociology

SocioSite - Aboriginals, criminology, feminism, labor movements, deviance, transgender, sociolinguistics and migration are a few of the over 170 subjects offered.
