Place a Hold on (Reserve) an Item

Here’s how to place a hold on (reserve) an item using the GeoWeb online Card Catalog:

  1. Click on the tab marked CARD CATALOG.

  2. When the CARD CATALOG screen displays, click on LOGIN TO THE CARD CATALOG (about halfway down the page.)

  3. Enter your library card number with no spaces and the first three letters of your last name in lower case. Continue the login process until you get to the DATABASE SELECTION page.

  4. Click on the collection you wish to search. Remember, you cannot place a hold on Orange County Library System items.

  5. Perform your search to find the item in which you are interested. When you find an item, click on the blue Full Record button. Then click on the blue button to the left marked HOLD ITEM.

  6. A new window will open, headed HOLD PATRON CHECK. Enter your library barcode with no spaces, and the first three letters of your last name in lower case. Then click VALIDATE PATRON PRIVILEGES.

  7. The next screen should display your name and your home library agency (where you originally got your card). If you wish to change your pickup point to another library, use the dropdown menu to select the library and then click COMMIT HOLD.

  8. The last screen, HOLD RESPONSE, will tell you whether your hold has been placed. Click RETURN TO SEARCH to close the window.

HOLD TIPS:

**If you have overdue items, or have a fine, you will not be able to place a hold online.

**Holds may not be placed on reference books, magazines or Stellar Sellers. You cannot reserve Film Library videos online. If you wish to borrow materials from the Film Library, submit your request through your local reference librarian.

**If you would like a particular book or video in a series, where all are listed on the same library record, ask your reference librarian to place an item hold for you.

**If the hold process does not work, call the reference librarian at your local library for help.
