MINUTES OF THE
SUNTREE/VIERA LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
MELBOURNE (SUNTREE), FL 32940
TUESDAY, MARCH 11, 2008
The Advisory Board of the Suntree/Viera Public Library
met on Tuesday, March 11, 2008. The meeting was called
the meeting to order at 1:40 PM. Present at the meeting
were Dr. Rochelle Kenyon and Kate Breitfeller. Also
present was Library Director Mary Scholtz. Terry Kotzen
had an excused absence.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion was made by Kate Breitfeller and seconded
by Dr. Rochelle Kenyon to approve the minutes of January
8, 2008, and February 12, 2008. The Board unanimously
approved the motion.
PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS
None.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Miscellaneous: We are collecting International
Teddy Bears for our Summer Reading Program.
For the 4th month in a row, our statistics show that
we are #1.
The Friends Book Sale will be Thursday, April 24th
from 4:30-7:30 pm for Members only. April 25th, 26th,
and 27th will be open to the public.
According to the By-laws, Advisory Board meetings
can be held quarterly or bi-monthly. They do not have
to meet every month. The Board members present would
like to meet bi-monthly. Unless we have a new Board
member to greet, it was agreed to cancel the April
meeting.
Staff: Cristina Olivero has been promoted
from Library Page to Library Aide. That leaves us
with an open Library Page position.
Budget: At this time I have no new
information on the budget. The County may still cut
people. We will cut the book budget in half. The Friends
have said they will support our Stellar Sellers at
$10,000. They already pay for our Summer Reading program
for $3,000.
We had our Brevard County Reading Festival March
1, at the Riverfront Park in Cocoa. Cocoa was also
having their annual craft fair, so there was some
overlapping attendance. It also
created parking problems. Mary attended the N.E.
Bode author talk. She was a great speaker, great with
the children, and was very impressive and funny.
This may be our last Reading Festival due to the
budget cuts. There will be no more travel to conferences
for the libraries - local travel only.

The next meeting of the Suntree/Viera Public Library
Advisory Board will be Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at
