CALL TO ORDER
The Brevard County Library Board meeting was
called to order on April 16, 2008, at 5:10 p.m. at
the Port St. John Library by Chairman Pat Freeman.
Pledge of Allegiance
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ms. Patton, Friends
of the Port St. John Library.
Approval of Minutes
Ms. Freeman asked for any additions or corrections
to the minutes of the March 19, 2008 regular meeting.

Correspondence
None
Director's Report
- Florida State Rankings of Brevard County Library
Services reviewed with Board.
- Conversion from present Integrated Library System
(ILS) to TLC is currently underway.
- Flooring replacement has begun at the Mims/Scottsmoor
Library.
- Use of meeting room by City of Cape Canaveral,
City Council still being pursued.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Foundation Report
The Library Foundation is currently working
on three projects. Mobile Library - gas for van; Reading
Festival - writing grants for funding of the program;
the purchase books for children.
Budget
The preliminary budget reduction lists were reviewed
with the Board.
NEW BUSINESS
Library Director Reports
Mr. David McMurrin, Port St. John Library Director,
invited the Board to the new gazebo and playground
dedication. Current events, projects, programs, and
Statistical information were reviewed. Charts outlining
patron, internet, Circulation check-in, and Reference
Activity Averages was distributed. The charts display
the breakdown by day/times, to help pinpoint busy
times.
Mr. Jeff Thompson, Merritt Island Library Director,
presented a slide show comparison of the start of
the Merritt Island Library to present day and what
the future may bring. Anticipated development and
current statistical data was reviewed.
COUNTY LIBRARY BOARD MEMBERS COMMENTS
Ms. Freeman thanked the Board members who came to
the meeting.
Mr. Scott was very impressed with both presentations.
He appreciated the charts; felt that all the libraries
should do something along the same line to show where
changes can be made.
Mrs. Hurst agreed with Mr. Scott's comments, and
asked about small government investment funds with
the state. Thanked Port St. John Library for refreshments.
Mrs. Kawhol thanked the directors for their wonderful
presentations.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
The next meeting of the County Library Advisory Board
will be May 21, 2008, at the South Mainland Public
Library at 5:00 p.m.
